Chin is Visiting Researcher at NYBG Steere Herbarium

As part of her ongoing research on the interaction between invasive and rare plant species, artist Christine Chin was a visiting researcher at the New York Botanical Garden Steere Herbarium this April. Says Chin, "From a photographer's perspective, the herbarium provides a window into the history of the plant species- each plant is an indexical reference to a particular point in time and space." Chin has several areas of focus, including her ongoing work in rare species in New York State, the effects of colonization on small island populations, and the reproductive morphology of threatened seed plants.

The Steere Herbarium is the largest herbarium in the Western Hemisphere and one of its areas of focus is New York State plants. Her visit was made possible through support from the NYBG Visiting Science Travel Award.
