Pollinator Plant Prints
Anthrotypes
Pollinators are declining in many ecosystems, locally and globally. These prints focus on pollinators of many types, from bees to beetles to nocturnal moths.

Of special concern are plant-plant pollinator connections where specific pollinators are preferred by specific plant species. These co-evolved relationships are especially challenged by changing conditions.

Plants and pollinators that are less picky have more choices, but often we are still learning about the particularities of these relationships.

Anthrotypes are photographic prints made with the juices of plants. A wide range of plants have surprising sensitivity to ultraviolet light. Favorites in this series are Phytolacca americana (American Pokeweed, Curcuma longa (Tumeric) and Hibiscus sabdariffa (Jamaican hibiscus). These prints fade over time and exposure to UV, which has metaphoric meaning in this series.
